- Nathan enlisted in the Union Army (7th Infantry, Co. S., Pennsylvania Volunteers) on March 17, 1863 in Harrisburg, Pa. On April 2, 1863, Nathan was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and Assistant Surgeon. Nathan died of disease on August 12, 1863 in Georgetown, Washington DC and is buried at Soldiers National Cemetery in Washington DC.
