- Adam and his brother, Abraham, headed for the California gold fields. They traveled via boat from New Orleans to Panama, overland to the Pacific side, then sailed up to San Francisco.
They traveled on the Steamer Oregon under Captain Watkins. The ship left Panama on June 11, 1852 at 8:00 pm; arrived at San Diego, California on June 25 at 5:00 am, and at the port of San Francisco on June 27th at 8:30 am.
